‘Sueños Textiles’: Data-Driven Fabric Inspired by Dreams

Bogotá

2021

Exploring the possibilities of intersecting data, computing, and textiles, this piece began with the collection of audio recordings of people's dreams, which I transformed into visualizations using Processing. I then hand-embroidered the fabric, using the visual patterns to represent sound amplitude with embroidered lines, sentence lengths in varying shades of yellow, mentions of loved ones in blue, and the most repeated words embedded into the fabric.

I find it particularly compelling to merge a traditionally female-dominated field like textiles with the male-dominated realms of data and computing, creating a dialogue between these contrasting disciplines. This process turns abstract data into a physical, sensory representation of dreams.
